My primary experience with self-awareness is that Im is not alone in his thoughts, feelings, and actions. I’ve seen him do a lot of things that I don’t think are typical of others, or that are the ones he thinks are typical of him. If Im was the one who was self-centered, then he’d be at the top of his list, but Im has a lot of self-centered things he has to do and Im knows he’s not alone in his thoughts.

Thats exactly what self-awareness is. Most of us have a lot of thoughts, feelings, and actions that are not typical of us. Self-awareness means that we can recognize our own tendencies and habits and learn to live with them instead of hating them. Self-awareness also means that we can make some things happen automatically, and others happen out of our own free will.

Hes not wrong but we have to realize that we cannot control everything. Things that we think are self-preventing us from doing something are actually self-preventing other people from doing something. We must learn to let go of the control we use when we need to take a certain action. Otherwise we will not stop doing the very thing we need to stop.

For the most part, it is true that we have to let go of self-preventing ourselves. When we get to a point where we need to take action it is because we get the urge. We don’t know what it is, but we need to take action. We are aware that our actions have consequences. We are aware that if we don’t take action, we will never stop.
