I have lived in three states of India, but currently live in New York. The first was in Gujarat, India, which is where I was born. The second was in Mumbai, India, which is where I had my first brush with the life of a true Indian. The third was in Bangalore, India, which I spent the first three years of my life in. These three places are all different versions of the same place, but all are very important in my life and my outlook.

From where I live now in the city of Bangalore, I can say that I’m a dual citizen of both India and the United States. So I’m not just a citizen of the country I live in, but also of the country I’m very much a citizen of. I live much more closely to my culture, my friends, my community, my place of worship, and my country with the same heart. I speak three languages, which I’m very comfortable with.

So when I say that I do live in a dual citizen state, I mean that I have two citizenship licenses (the citizenship I have in each country), and I also have a citizenship-less passport (that I am allowed to apply for) which is a very important document to me. I had to take it to the border on several occasions, and I had to submit to an interview where I was asked questions about my citizenship.

People like me are very fortunate. Most of the people I know are living in dual citizenship states. Many people are not. My citizenship is not the same as my passport’s citizenship. My passport is a legal document, but my citizenship is not a legal document. My passport is just a document someone has that they have to present in order to get a visa to go to the other country.

I don’t know about you, but I have a hard time keeping track of which state of India I am a citizen of.

Ramanuja, the hero known as Ramanuja, was born in a village of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu (or the present day state of Tamil Nadu). He was a freedom fighter and a devotee of the Hindu god of destruction, Shiva. In an attempt to become a god, Ramanuja attempted to kill Shiva and was instead defeated by his own son, Vishnu, the god of prosperity, and the goddess of wealth and power.

I have a hard time keeping track of which state of India I am a citizen of. Ramanuja is the first hero that doesn’t come from a specific state of the country, but instead is a hero who is a citizen of all of India.

Ramanuja was born in Tuticorin (the capital of Tamil Nadu), in the middle of the 13th century, in what is now Madurai. His father, a freedom fighter, was killed in the battle of Poona in 1739, so Ramanuja had to fight for his mother and other family members in their quest to freedom.
