Our brains are a remarkable machine and we are more than capable of creating a mental checklist of everything we want to do and everything we don’t. This checklist usually includes things we need to do that are important to us and things we don’t need to do that are important to us. In this article I will introduce you to three levels of awareness and how each of them manifests differently to each of us.
The first level is self-awareness. When we are aware of a problem, we can then choose what to do about it. For example, if you have a problem with your car, then you might go to the garage to get repair parts. If you feel that you are in pain, then it is going to take you longer to get to your car than if you were not aware.
This is generally not a problem for most people, but when you are self-aware, you then have a greater sense of control of your life and can consciously choose what to do about it. For example, you can now go to the ATM to withdraw money, you might now avoid alcohol, and you can stop smoking.
What we are all aware of is that the way we look at our lives. We are self-aware of our desires and what we want, but we are not able to make that desire happen. We can do things, but we are not able to control them.
The same is true of goals and values. If we truly want something, we can usually achieve it, but we are not able to control when and for how long we achieve it. We are aware that we want to have more of this. We are aware that we want to be happier. We are aware that we want to be more successful. We are aware that we want to be healthier. We are aware that we want to be more creative.
We are aware of all of these things, but we are not able to control them. So we are stuck on autopilot.
The problem is in not controlling when we achieve goals and values. This is because we are not able to control anything in reality, so everything is just a story we tell ourselves. In reality we might not be able to achieve our goals or values, but we can control how we react to those situations.
I am constantly amazed at how little I can control in reality. If I am trying to play a certain game I might decide to stop playing it because something didn’t feel right, but if I am playing that game and I realize I should have stopped or I want to play again, then I can decide to continue or I don’t. If I decide to stop playing it, I have no control over what happens.
In the real world not much happens that isnt also happening on Deathloop. We can control the outcome of our actions, but we can’t control the outcome of our thoughts and thoughts are actions. That is why our thoughts and actions are our actions. They are the way we control ourselves.
The first thing we need to do is to stop thinking about what is happening and start thinking about what should be happening for the best. What should be happening? What is the best? What are the best ideas that could happen? The answers to these questions are usually not very intuitive. They are based on our feelings, our emotions, our beliefs, and our previous patterns of thinking.
